10th September 2005 ride to Great and Little Langdale

The five of us met at the Moor Top car park at the summit of Hawkhead Moor just above Hawkhead. After we got the bikes out of the vans or in Bryan case the camper van, we all free wheel down to the Grizedale Centre for early morning coffee at the cafe in the Forest. We then followed forest cycle tracks over to Coniston enjoying good views has we climb out of the Grizedale Valley and dropping down into the Coniston Valley. We rejoined the tarmac just below Brantwood, before following the lanes through to Boon Crag Farm which is on the main Hawkhead to Coniston road and is also a National Trust Wood Yard where Cliff had work at for several years and as it usually into this part of the world Cliff met a former work colleague who was driving out of the yard. So while Cliff had short with his former colleague, rest of us head to the start of the track and Cliff soon join us, a bit further up the track we stop for a short break for Brian Parkinson to mend a puncture, we soon on a way again and soon dropping down into Yewdale and then cross over the A593, where we join a National Trust bridbleway which we followed till the turn off for Tiberthwaite.
We followed the road up through Low Tiberthwaite where Cliff pointed out where used to lived and continue through High Tiberthwaite, where we followed the track through the woods down into Little Langdale, we soon stop for lunch beside the track.
After lunch we continue through Moss Rigg Wood down to ford in Little Langdale which the Map Man Nicholas Crane waded through in the first episode of the current series of the Map Man, I wonder why when there is good foot bridge across the River Brathay, which we decide to use, we stop for short while to watch some trail motor bikers try to cross the ford we out getting their feet wet and two of them got their feet wet.
We made our way through Little Langdale and up to Dale End. We then follow the white road part of way over into Great Langdale, before taking the bridleway through Sawreys Wood and dropping down to the road which runs up to Baysbrown Farm, where Brian he had another puncture, after he mend this we continue up the valley past Baysbrown Farm, we then follow the bridleway up to Oak Howe House, after crossing over Great Langdale Beck by another foot bridge ( there photo in the September/ October issue of the Journal of the Lancashire Group crossing the same bridge) we followed the track up to the B5343 where we decide it was coffee time, so we headed to Brambles Cafe in Chapel Stile.
After the coffee stop, we followed the B5343 down to Skelwith Bridge and follow the lanes back to the vans via the Drucken Duck, Outgate and Hawkhead
